Our founders were not content watching from the sideline. Since our founding, Tri-Sigma has initiated over 100,000 women. Our national headquarters, the Mabel Lee Walton house, was acquired in 1963 in Woodstock, Virginia. In 1951 Tri-Sigma became a member of the National Panhellenic Council. The world has changed since our founding, and Sigma has changed right along with it. What started at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia has grown to a national sorority of one hundred and eight national collegiate chapters, with eighty-nine national and international alumnae chapters. They vowed these things to each other with our motto, Faithful Until Death. Our eight founders, Margaret Lee Batten, Louise Marie Davis, Martha Trent Featherston, Isabella Merrick, Sallie Jackson Michie, Lelia Scott, Elizabeth Watkins and Lucy Wright envisioned a sisterhood of high conduct, strong character, and above all, friendship to last a lifetime. These women were to be the founders of our sisterhood, Sigma Sigma Sigma, and founded something greater then they could have imagined from the start. These women shared a special bond of sisterhood from the earliest days, and hoped to pass this on to woman in the future. In 1898, eight strong, independent, and courageous women looked at their lives, college experience, and hopes for the future and sought to make more of themselves. The book “Where the Heart Is” was written by a Sigma – Billie Letts. Suzie from the ABC show The Bachelor is a Tri Sigma

The pearl has special meaning that we symbolize along with our sisterhood, and also is part of our badge. Our flower is the Purple Violet. We got our mascot by way of Robbie Page, for whom our philanthropy was founded. Our jewel of choice is the pearl. Sailboats also represent grace and beauty. Only initiated sisters may posses anything with the crest printed on it.The sailboat is our national mascot, which symbolizes our ever forward movement. Our crest has special meaning for our sisterhood. Our motto is also found on our coat of arms. We represent this with a skull and cross bone like on our badge. This motto is part of the basis of our sisterhood, adding reassurance to each sister we are there for each other through it all. Our motto, created by our eight founders, is Faithful Until Death.
